How do people use spaces over time? How do designers evaluate their programmatic strategies? How might building be responsive to the particular needs of its users?
Traditionally, these questions are the domain of social scientists, incorporating data collected from in-place observation. This approaches limits the scale of the possible analysis to short time-horizons, typically measured in hours. Although long-term video (weeks, months, or even years) may be available, time and cost constraints make manual analysis of such large-scale data impractical.
